Civil engineering

The capacity of a steel wire mesh designed for tunnel reinforcement was investigated using PFC3D. Initial calibrations were performed against laboratory test results, where a platen loaded the mesh from below. Once the parameters and overall response matched the laboratory observations, different cases were simulated where rock bolts were detached, a single bolt plate was detached, multiple overlapping sheets were connected while different loading patterns or objects were applied. This enabled the optimisation of reinforcement design while maintaining operational safety.
